# Quickstart

This page takes you from signing up to a ledger with its first transaction. It takes a couple of minutes, and nothing here needs a card.

## 1. Sign in

Open [Log in](https://contamos.xyz/login) and sign in with your email or one of the providers offered. The first time you sign in, your account is created for you.

## 2. Create a team

A team is one shared ledger: its accounts, its transactions and the people who keep it. With no team yet, Contamos opens **Create team** right after you sign in.

1. Give the team a **Name**, such as "Home" or "Trip to Lisbon".
2. Choose **Create**.

You become the team's **Owner** and land on its **Dashboard**. You can rename the team later under **Configuration**. A team has no currency of its own: currencies belong to accounts.

The header of the app shows **Finish your onboarding** until you have created an account, added a first transaction and invited a member. The steps below cover the first two.

## 3. Create an account

An account is anywhere the team keeps money: a bank account, a card, a wallet of cash or a crypto wallet.

1. Open **Accounts** in the sidebar and choose **Create account**.
2. Enter a **Name** and pick a **Type**: **Bank**, **Cash** or **Crypto**.
3. Under **Currencies**, choose every currency the account holds. An account can hold several.
4. Optionally, enter an **Opening balance** for each currency, and the date in **Balance as of**.
5. Choose **Save**.

## 4. Record your first transaction

1. Open the **+** menu in the header and choose **New expense** or **New income**.
2. Type the **Amount**, and pick the **Account** and currency if the team has more than one.
3. Pick a **Category**.
4. Optionally, change the date, add **Notes** or **Tags**, or adjust the **Rate**.
5. Choose **Register this expense** (or **Register this income**).

The account's balance updates at once, and the transaction shows up under **Transactions**. If you made a mistake, choose **Undo** on the confirmation that appears.

## 5. Invite the people you share money with

Open **Members**, then **Invitations**, and choose **Invite member**. Everyone you invite sees and records in the same ledger. Read more in [Members and roles](https://contamos.xyz/en/docs/members-and-roles).
