# Introduction

Contamos is a shared ledger for any group that shares money: a couple, flatmates, a family, a side project. Everyone in the group records income, expenses and transfers in one place, across as many accounts and currencies as the money actually lives in, and everyone sees the same numbers.

## What Contamos is

- **A shared ledger.** A team is one ledger. Every member of the team sees everything recorded in it, and who recorded it.
- **Multi-currency by design.** An account can hold several currencies, and balances are shown per currency instead of being blended into one converted number.
- **One exchange rate per transaction.** Every transaction stores the exchange rate of the day it happened, so what it was worth stays on record long after the rate has moved.
- **Plain language.** Accounts, transactions, transfers and tags. There is no double-entry vocabulary to learn.

## What Contamos is not

Contamos does not connect to your bank, move money or work out who owes whom. It records what the members of a team enter, and nothing else. It is not accounting software, and nothing it shows is financial advice.
