# AI assistants

Contamos runs a remote MCP server, the standard way AI assistants such as Claude and ChatGPT connect to other apps. Once you connect one, you can ask it about your ledger in plain language, or have it record what you tell it. It works on every plan.

## What an assistant can do

A connected assistant can:

- read balances, transactions, the monthly report and summaries between any two dates;
- record, edit and delete income, expenses and transfers;
- manage accounts and tags;
- import a bank statement you hand it, after a dry run you review, and undo that import if needed;
- manage budgets and recurring rules, and read the activity log, on teams with Pro.

It never invents an exchange rate: when there is no rate for a date, it asks you for one. Before anything that changes or deletes what you recorded, it is instructed to ask you first.

## As you, within your team's plan

You sign in to Contamos once, from the assistant. From then on it acts as you, with your role on each of your teams, and it reaches exactly what you can reach in the app: on the Free plan it sees the same history, and the features that need Pro still need Pro. When a team uses more than one, the assistant asks which team you mean. Every change it makes shows in the [activity log](https://contamos.xyz/en/docs/activity-log) with the assistant's name.

## Disconnecting an assistant

Open **AI assistants** in the app's sidebar to see every assistant connected to your account. **Disconnect** stops it at once, on every team. You can connect it again later.

## How to connect

You sign in once; the assistant then acts as you, with your role on each team.

### Claude

1. Open Settings, then Connectors.
2. Choose Add custom connector.
3. Paste the server address and sign in to Contamos when asked.

### ChatGPT

1. Open Settings, then Connectors, and turn on developer mode if asked.
2. Add a new connector with the server address as its MCP server URL.
3. Sign in to Contamos when asked.

## Example prompts

- What are the balances of my team, in each currency?
- Summarize my income and expenses for this month by category.
- Record an expense of 45 dollars for groceries today, paid from my bank account.
- Transfer 200 dollars from my bank account to cash today.
- Here is my bank statement. Import its transactions into my team, and show me a dry run before you import anything.
- How are my budgets doing this month? (Pro)
